2009 Rincon Classic Media Coverage

Multi Media coverage for the 2009 Rincon Classic reached new heights through the combined efforts of our marketing team and strategic partnerships with event sponsors. The key components stimulating a larger universal buzz were the optimization of online forums and viral marketing, and the web casting partnership between Surf Happens and Reelcomp.com. By stimulating sustained buzz on line for several months before and after the event, all other forms of media marketing proven to be more effective in strengthening brand name recognition, and the attendance of competitors and spectators alike.

For the second year running, Deep magazine was the official print media partner who created the Rincon Classic program, devoting an entire issue to the event while other local papers and magazines featured pre and post event images as well as news stories. The overall result of strategic partners applying a joint effort through a consistent, and cohesive marketing plan, was exponentially increased multi media exposure.
From a two minute piece on FUEL TV’s Weekly Update that aired in 80,000,000 homes, 28 times in one week in early February to increased coverage in local and regional print media, international print coverage, prime time radio ads on 92.9 KJEE, along with an explosive interest in online forums and magazines, the Rincon Classic has gone global. Surf Happens also teamed up with rinconsurfblog and Jon Shafer who disseminated information to numerous online partners further stimulating the buzz.

In all, over 85 online forums documented and posted photos, video clips and stories on the Rincon Classic, each with their own site specific demographic. The overlapping of the coverage stimulated overall public awareness of the event, and brand name recognition for sponsors. If you type 2009 Rincon Classic into a Google browser over 614,000 links are shown.
